Over 60s webcam
A bit of history about Web cam's The very first Webcam was Started in 1991 in the computer science department of Cambridge University.
Today there are tens of thousands of webcam's around the world that provide views into homes, offices and other buildings as well as providing panoramic views of cities and the countryside.
Read my easy to follow how to guide on how to setup your own Derby/Derbyshire webcam for your area.
Here is a list of current webcams I have found for you that feature content from within the county of Derbyshire.
They were installed by former Derby museum curator Nick Moyes who had to abseil down the tower to fix the webcams in place.
Webcam Location : Right Camera on Derby Cathedral Falcon nest, Derby, Derbyshire. Webcam type : Streaming moving image of 704 x 576 pixels, Locked viewpoint, dial-up ok. In this view you can see the Jurys Inn Hotel on the inner ring road.
The only rules are it must be in the county of Derbyshire and offer a view of the local area, I would especially like to hear from anyone that wants to offer footage from locations in Derby itself as these are rather scarce.
A good quality live streaming webcam in the City is what I would really like to see on my webcam page, can you provide such a thing, if so get in touch now.
As these webcam sources are provided by other people they are out of the control of so please bare this in mind.
All you need is a pc that’s turned on most of the time (ideally all the time), a broadband internet connection, a webcam and a piece of software that will put the view onto the internet so people can see it.
And of course finally you need a view for the camera out of your window or your garden which shows off your village.
With Broadband internet becoming common place these days there are a lot more websites that offer live streaming video, this allows you to see the location as though you were these with people moving around and traffic flowing etc.
Certain web cam sites require you to install a small plug-in for your browser, these normally allow extra functionality to the webcam viewer such as the ability to control the angle of the webcam.
